Did You Know...
The New Zealand Copyright (Infringing File Sharing) Amendment Bill puts into place a three-notice process to deter illegal file sharing, after which the copyright owner can then seek from the account holder reparation in the form of damages of up to $15,000.

How it Affects Your Business
The potential liability is serious when a staff member secretly downloads copyright material on your company Internet connection as you may be held responsible. Such infringements may be traced directly to you through your unique Internet IP address, leaving you open to a large fine and disconnection from the Internet if the downloading persists. In addition to the punitive implications from illegal downloads, there may also be considerable costs associated with staff downtime, risk of viruses and excess data to your company. Your first indication that a staff member is file sharing may be when you receive an infringement notice from a copyright holder.

Low Cost Protection Service
To limit your liability EOL has developed PIPE (Proactive Internet Policy Enforcement), a new subscriber service which allows you to design your own set of rules so we only deliver the data you want for your business. Data types that you select as not wanted are blocked at our gateway, thereby limiting your liability from illegal material entering your business network.
